Butcher, Baker

We've just added Sarah Raven's Garden Cookbook to our cookbook collection (you can see the rest of our cookbook collection on the left and scroll down) and I have to say it is one of the most beautiful cookbooks we have ever owned. The photography and recipes are so inspiring and it is handily set out in season then produce order. Thanks to this book I now want to grow purple brussel sprouts because they are so pretty!

Tonight I'm planning to make crushed new potatoes with garlic and rosemary from it. I'm also going to make a batch of cookies for us staff going on the residential trip tomorrow.

Until I sorted out my cookbooks last week I never realised how much my cookbooks are geared towards British chefs, British cookery and grow your own.

  1. I love this book ... I've been on several of Sarah's courses, from the early days of her school, and find her very inspiring, because of her can-do attitude. The courses are expensive, so if they're too much, it's worth visiting Perch Hill on one of the open days, which is a cheaper option, but inspiring too (although a bit of a scrum!)

Her gardening books are worth a look, too

  2. Thanks for the suggestions Joanna. I think Sarah is going to be one of my new fave chefs, step aside Nigella!

  3. I leafed through this in Waitrose the other day and it did look good, I'm trying not to buy anymore books though. I like My Library thing you've done.

  4. i think its great you have posted this - i think sometimes we forget the impact a good, well made cookbook can make! my fave of the year was easily Kitchen Diaries by Nigel slater - although the new rick stein mediterreanean one is excellent too. good post!

  5. Hi Jules,
I am really enjoying reading through your site. We have a lot in common, cookbooks, food likes and even work. I hope you don't mind but I've added your link on my page.

  6. I love any sort of potatoes with rosemary - my favourite is tiny cubed roasted potatoes cooked with rosemary and olive oil - yum!

Of course, it does help that we have about 5 massive rosemary bushes in our garden!
